In a fascinating match, Nicholas Pooran played a brilliant inning, scoring an unbeaten 137 runs off just 55 balls. His remarkable performance helped MI New York defeat Seattle Orcas by seven wickets and win the opening edition of Major League Cricket on Monday morning (IST).
MI needed 184 runs for victory, and they achieved it with 24 balls to spare. During his mesmerizing innings, Pooran smashed 13 sixes and 10 fours, finishing as the leading run-scorer in the tournament. He also registered the fastest half-century of the season, reaching the milestone in just 16 balls
Meanwhile, Seattle Orcas’ captain, Wayne Parnell, said, “Whenever someone plays like this, you have to give them credit. Kudos to Nikky (Nicholas Pooran) and his team. It didn’t feel like he (Pooran) would miss the ball today. We posted a good total, but we have to give credit to him today. The first MLC season has been really great. Credit to everyone involved in organizing it. Credit to our owners and management for choosing this team and giving us the freedom to play our brand of cricket.”
By 7 wickets, MI New York defeated Seattle Orcas 183/9 (Quinton de Kock 87, Shubham Ranjane 29, Rashid Khan 3/9) with 184/3 (Nicholas Pooran 137*, Dewald Brevis 20, Imad Wasim 1/14).
